Chiropractor - Athletic Medicine - Per Diem 8 Hour Rotating Shift (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union)

Keck Medicine of USC Hospital Los Angeles, California

Provides chiropractor services and other related work as required by the USC Student Health Chief Health Officer, or designate, for the well-being of patients at USC Student Health.

Responsible for providing acupuncture services to student athletes including assessment and treatment. This would include acupuncture treatment technique involving stimulation of points and combinations of points on the body surface by the insertion of acupuncture needles, manual therapies to the skin and soft tissues, and health education. Assessment may occur through a multidisciplinary collaboration involving a range of methods including history and observational and tactile assessments. The acupuncturist may also refer a patient to an appropriate specialist or co-manage with other healthcare providers. The acupuncturist is considered to be a member of the Athletic Medicine team.

Essential Duties:

  • Under the direction and supervision of the Athletic Medicine Medical Director, utilizes acupuncture to stimulate certain points on or near the surface of the body by the insertion of needles to prevent or modify the perception of pain or to normalize physiological functions
  • Obtains detailed and accurate medical histories from student athletes.
  • Conducts appropriate physical examinations, delineates problems, and documents the information into the medical record. Develops and implements student athlete's treatment/management plans and the recording of progress notes.
  • May perform or prescribe the use of oriental massage, acupressure, breathing techniques, or exercise.
  • Provide treatment modalities including cupping, moxibustion, oriental massage, acupressure, breathing techniques, exercise, heat, cold, and magnets.
  • Provides medically necessary acupuncture, consults, assessments and treatments when requested/authorized by physicians/specialists
  • Provides an accurate diagnosis, supported by medical findings based on standardized examination and techniques generally accepted by the medical community. This includes TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Western diagnostic techniques
  • Produces complete, accurate, uniform and replicable examinations
  • Provides quality treatment to improve the medical condition causing the student athlete's complaint Documents all treatments and patient's response to acupuncture therapy on student athlete's chart
  • Stresses health education and preventive medical care in contacts with student athletes.
  • Makes appropriate referrals for student athletes with concerns about nutrition, exercise, stress management, and recommended courses of treatment.
  • Educates student athletes on physical condition, response and progress for injuries and discusses with physicians, rehabilitation coordinator when appropriate, and athletic trainers
  • Acts and reinforces collegial communication, respect, integrity, trust and equity/diversity in all job related interactions
  • Maintains ongoing education and knowledge related to sports medicine as well as applicable and changing governmental and NCAA rules and policies which may affect the sports medicine program.
  • Responsible for performing duties while traveling and working nights and weekends.
  • Responsible for reporting any misconduct and/or actions not in accordance with department guidelines, policies and procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Doctorate Doctor of Chiropractic, D.C.
  • Req Master's degree Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine
  • Req Experience in medical administration of clinical program.
  • Req 2 years 2 years of direct patient care experience in chiropractic medicine.
  • Req Knowledge of medical guidelines and procedures regarding examination, therapy and recovery.
  • Req Familiarity with advancements in medical technology and current know-how.
  • Req Ability to travel and work nights and weekends.
  • Req Ability to travel and work nights and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref 5 years Medical practice outside training.
  • Pref 5 years Experience in chiropractic medicine.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Doctor of Chiropractic, D.C. Possession of the legal requirements for the Practice of Chiropractors in California as determined by the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
  • Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date.  (Required within LA City only)
  • FIRE LIFE SAFETY TRAINING: Applicable for this department only: ◦ *Per LA Fire City Code regulations If working within the following areas, employee is exempt from this requirement: Student Health Center and Athletics facilities (within “B” occupancy).

The hourly rate range for this position is $53.00 - $87.45.
