Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology (Practitioner)

The Department of Radiation Oncology, Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California is a robust team of clinicians and basic science/clinical researchers consisting of approximately 15 physician faculty and 10 medical physicist faculty. We provide services at six hospitals, including Keck Hospital of USC, Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, USC Arcadia Hospital, Adventist White Memorial Hospital, Henry Mayo Newall Hospital and up to six community-based clinics when building construction has been completed. The Department has ACR accreditation for USC Norris Cancer Hospital and all of its Keck Medicine of USC regional radiation oncology clinics, all of which are ACR accredited sites. The CHLA radiation oncology unit has earned APEX accreditation and is part of the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The cancer center is a full member of the NRG, with a robust clinical trials program. It also participates in clinical trials sponsored by SWOG, Alliance, and many other cooperative group and industry sponsors. Our medical physics faculty are directly involved in ensuring quality and safety for clinical operations, clinical research, and education and are initiating a new CAMPEP accredited medical physics residency training program.

The ACGME accredited medical residency training program is based at Los Angeles General Medical Center. The Department at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center is equipped with a state-of the art Varian Truebeam STx with BrainLab ExacTrac for high precision monitoring of positioning during treatment, a new Varian Truebeam with HyperArc with surface guidance radiation therapy (SGRT) being installed, and a Trilogy machine. Additional integrated technologies include a dedicated Siemens CT simulator, Varian RPM respiratory gating, and prone breast technique. The HDR brachytherapy program is housed in a dedicated procedural suite with full anesthesia capability, and Varisource HDR brachytherapy unit and is active in GU, GYN, skin cancers with plans to add other disease sites. The Keck Hospital houses a Gamma knife that is being upgraded to the latest model. An ongoing program in ocular melanoma involves joint faculty from the Roski Eye Institute who treat patients with episcleral plaque brachytherapy. The department’s community-based clinics feature new Varian Truebeam, Halcyon (ring-based gantry) linear accelerators and SGRT with capabilities for gating and fractionated stereotactic (brain/body) radiation therapy. The Adventist White Memorial Hospital department that we professionally service also has new Truebeam linear accelerator technology.

The Newport Beach Medical Office Building (coming in early 2025) will house a newly built radiation oncology department equipped with TrueBeam with SGRT, RefleXion with BGRT, CT simulator and a PET/CT scanner. The Pasadena radiation oncology department (coming late 2025) will be located in a large state of the art multidisciplinary ambulatory care center and have a RefleXion for BGRT, CT simulator and, HDR suite.

Position Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California is recruiting a board certified/board eligible Radiation Oncologist at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidates will receive academic appointment at a level appropriate to training and experience from the Keck School of Medicine. This position will support clinical effort and cover community clinics in the Los Angeles and Orange County regions while being based in one of the regions for their primary work assignment. We anticipate the start date for this role to be in July 2025, but are flexible to an earlier or delayed start date for the right candidate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible Physician (MD or DO); California Medical License, ABR certification or progression
  • Graduate of a United States ACGME accredited 4-yr residency program in Radiation Oncology

Exempt Position

“The annual base salary range for this position is $325,000- $360,000.
