Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology (Practitioner)

The Department of Radiation Oncology, Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California is a robust team of clinicians and basic science/clinical researchers consisting of approximately 15 physician faculty and 10 medical physicist faculty. We provide services at seven hospitals, including Keck Hospital of USC, Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, USC Arcadia Hospital, , Henry Mayo Newall Hospital and up to five community-based clinics when building construction has been completed. The Department has multi-cycle ACR accreditation for USC Norris Cancer Hospital and all of its Keck Medicine of USC regional radiation oncology clinics. The CHLA radiation oncology unit has earned APEX re-accreditation and is part of the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The program is a full member of the NRG, NSABP, and GOG. It also participates in clinical trials sponsored by SWOG. Our medical physics faculty are directly involved in ensuring quality and safety for clinical operations, clinical research, and education and participate in the training of medical physics residents in a new CAMPEP accredited medical physics residency training program established in 2024.

The Department at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center is equipped with a Varian Truebeam STX with Brain Lab ExacTrac for high precision monitoring of positioning during treatment, a Varian Truebeam with HyperArc, VisionRT SGRT and a Trilogy linear accelerator. Additional integrated technologies include a dedicated Siemens SOMATOM go.Open Pro CT simulator, Varian RPM respiratory gating, and prone breast technique. The HDR brachytherapy program is housed in a dedicated procedural suite with full anesthesia capability, and Bravos HDR brachytherapy unit and is active in GU, GYN, skin cancers with plans to add other disease sites. The Keck Hospital will house a new Gamma knife Espirit that is being upgraded to the latest model. An ongoing program in ocular melanoma involves joint faculty from the Roski Eye Institute who treat patients with episcleral plaque brachytherapy. The department’s Arcadia community-based clinics feature a new beam matched Varian Truebeam linear accelerator with capabilities for gating, fractionated brain radiosurgery and SBRT along with a dedicated Siemens SOMATOM go.Sim CT simulator. The OIS/OMS is ARIA and treatment planning is performed on Eclipse treatment planning software.

Position Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California is recruiting a board certified/board eligible Radiation Oncologist at the Clinical Assistant Professor level (practitioner track). The successful candidates will receive an academic appointment at a level appropriate to training and experience from the Keck School of Medicine. This position will have a primary assignment at USC Arcadia Hospital where they will be the primary Radiation Oncologist. The individual is also expected to help cover our other community clinics in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible Physician (MD or DO); California Medical License, ABR certification or progression
  • Graduate of a United States ACGME accredited 4-yr residency program in Radiation Oncology
  • Possess a California Fluoroscopic supervisor’s license
  • Radiation Oncology experience in an academic medical center satellite or community setting

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal faculty candidate should possess excellent leadership skills in a community-based radiation oncology setting, familiarity with community-based health care, experience in oncology practice and operations, and ability in practice building activities while promoting a culture of quality and safety.

The annual base salary range for this position is $350,000 - $390,000 and will be commensurate with clinical experience and academic rank.
