The USC Suzanne Dworak-PeckSchool of Social Work is recognized as one of the most innovative in the nation. Our research and teaching environment is vibrant, interdisciplinary, and highly supported. In 2015, the School embarked on a process of revising its curriculum and developing a departmental structure. Clinical teaching field faculty must hold a MSW with a minimum of five years of experience. A PhD, DSW, or doctorate in an allied field is preferred. Candidates must be able to teach evidence based practices, as well as field lab classes and integrative seminars. Leadership in dissemination of ideas and educational expertise to the profession, community constituents, and other stakeholders is also an expectation. Effective communication skills and experience as a field instructor and/or field liaison are essential, together with support for the School’s strong orientation to the science of social work.
Applicants with exceptional credentials in a variety of expertise will be considered. We are particularly interested in faculty with expertise in child welfare, juvenile justice, military science, integrated care, and Alzheimer’s research. In keeping with our focus on diversity and global issues, we seek faculty who have strong scholarship profiles involving Latino, Asian-Pacific Islander, and/or African-American populations.
Clinical field faculty teach six classes each year in a variety of flexible teaching arrangements which factor in assignments as field liaisons and student placement responsibilities. Like all faculty at USC, they are expected to contribute to scholarship through publications, presentations, and trainings. Scholarship by our clinical field faculty is focused on educational assessment, innovative pedagogy, field education curriculum policies, and related issues. Clinical field faculty hold responsible leadership roles nationally and within the Department, School, and University.
Initial appointments are made for three years, with annual performance review, followed by continuing appointments subject to school and university policies Clinical field faculty are appointed at the instructor, assistant professor, associate professor and full professor ranks, with opportunities for promotion and other forms of School and University recognition.
Available position(s) are located at the University Park Campus in Los Angeles and/or in the Virtual Academic Center (VAC), which is organized into four geographic regions and enrolls students from the 50 states and territories of the US. For the VAC, clinical field faculty candidates may only apply if they live in the corresponding region in which the position is posted. This VAC opening is in the Northwest Region: AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, and WY. Please also note that some travel is required for all full time VAC faculty during the academic year, including initial orientation and annual faculty retreats in Los Angeles, as well as participation in other key events across the country.
