Role Overview: Installs and performs on-site repairs, upgrades and maintenance of large scale computer systems, workstations and peripherals. Works on all activities and under minimal supervision. Leads other engineers. During your time in this role at USC you will:
- Provide leadership, guidance and direction to lower level staff.
- Install, upgrade, repair and maintains large scale computer systems including operating system setup, configuration and troubleshooting. Integrate and test central processors and various peripheral devices. Calibrate equipment. Respond to emergencies and disasters to provide emergency management subject matter expertise including coordination of command posts or the Emergency Operations Center. Support the Business Continuity Specialist with the activation and facilitation of continuity plans. Coordinate the development of partnerships between law enforcement and university public safety personnel to enhance awareness of crime prevention techniques through the education of faculty, staff, students and the public.
- Lead other engineers, student and casual workers. Schedule and assign work and monitors performance. Provide written performance evaluations. In the event of an emergency, the employee holding this position is required to “report to duty” in accordance with the university’s Emergency Operations Plan and/or the employee’s department’s emergency response and/or recovery plans. Familiarity with those plans and regular training to implement those plans is required. During or immediately following an emergency, the employee will be notified to assist in the emergency response efforts, and mobilize other staff members if needed.
- Provide technical assistance and training to other engineers. Contribute to the development of technical training materials.
- Design special devices and interfaces in consultation with staff engineers and programmers. Assemble, integrate and test or check out special devices and interfaces.
- Monitor the performance of supported hardware and provides recommendations for improvement or change. Coordinate implementation of changes.
- Stay informed of new developments and technologies by reading journals and other pertinent publications, maintaining contact with vendors, and participating in professional organizations, meetings and seminars.

Minimum Requirements
- Education: Specialized/technical training, combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
- Experience: At least 5 years of directly related experience servicing computer systems and peripherals; diagnostic software.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills

- Bachelor’s degree
- 6+ years of experience
- In-depth knowledge of computer systems, peripherals and diagnostic tools/software.

Hourly Range:
The hourly base salary for this position is between $46.97-$52 per hour. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
