Equipment Technician - Biomed - Per Diem 8 Hour Rotating Shifts (Non-Exempt) (Union)

As an integral part of the department, the Equipment Technician supports the clinical staff on a daily basis by cleaning, maintaining and/or coordinating the movement of the equipment for the patient care needs. This individual will work closely with the Department clinical staff and management to ensure the daily availability of this related equipment and provide the necessary communication regarding the status of equipment and/or PAR levels. Through collaboration with the clinical staff and leadership, this individual with coordinate the movement of equipment to facilitate the daily schedule needs. Provides input into both operating and capital budgetary needs for equipment needs and insuring the general effectiveness of the department medical equipment.

The Equipment Technician supports nursing staff on a daily basis by coordinating, cleaning and the movement of the equipment for each patient care area . This individual will work closely with the nursing departments to ensure the daily availability of related equipment and provide the necessary communication regarding the status of equipment and PAR levels. Through collaboration with the nursing staff and leadership this individual with coordinate the movement of equipment to facilitate the daily schedule needs. Provides input into both operating and capital budgetary needs and insuring the general effectiveness of the medical equipment.

Essential Duties:

  • 1. Responsible for decontaminating all Infusion, feeding and SCD pumps according to manufacturer’s guidelines (IFU).
  • 2. Works with databases to track and locate equipment
  • 3. Ensures the department is clean, maintain, and restock throughout the shift.
  • 4. Through collaboration with the nursing staff facilitates the daily movement of equipment for patient needs.
  • 5. At times directs the movement of equipment to other patient care areas.
  • 6. Applies appropriate technique of donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Fully utilizes PPE to ensure compliance with all USC safety standard.
  • 7. Responsible for accurate documentation
  • 8. Works closely with the Biomedical Department to ensure the necessary equipment is in working order and when repairs are needed arranges for loaner equipment to be provided to the nursing floors. Provides operator maintenance activities when needed.
  • 9. Follows policies and standards to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • 10. Ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner.
  • 11. Assists in resolving conflicts with equipment issues.
  • 12. Required to be on-call/standby
  • 13. Keeps nursing up to date on current issues related to equipment needs in specific specialties.
  • 14. Assists with annual budget related to equipment, supplies and capital requirements. Makes recommendations that enhance resources utilization within the department.
  • 15. Acts as liaison between nursing regarding any equipment related issues.
  • 16. Maintains supplies and equipment on a continuous basis. This is inclusive of any at par levels, organized, cleaned and outdates disposed of.
  • 17. Responsible for updating/providing inventory report to department and/or stakeholders
  • 18. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req High school or equivalent
  • Req 6 - 12 months Experience working with medical equipment
  • Req Organization/time management skills.
  • Req Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Req Demonstrated ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref Associate's degree Degree in a related field.


Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The hourly rate range for this position is $18.20 - $30.97.
