General Services Journeyman

Facilities Management Services Los Angeles, California

The University of Southern California (USC) Department of Facilities Planning & Management (FPM) seeks a General Services Journeyman to join its team.

The Work You Will Do

The General Services Journeyman: Collects and disposes of all recycling and compost and landfill waste from the exterior multi stream bins located on campus and at The Village in compliance with the University's Zero Waste Initiative. This position is responsible to ensure the bins are cleaned and presentable for the exterior campus. Additionally, this position physically pulls out waste bins for the franchise trash hauler at The Village and all other areas on campus where applicable. Participates in Zero Waste Events, directing the public, students, and staff on proper waste disposal. Collects bulky items from trash enclosures and inside buildings to ensure proper waste disposal. Identifies the service level frequency of all waste bins is accurate for the university by observing the capacity of bins. Assists FPM with all duties related to Waste Management and the University’s Zero Waste Initiative

The General Services Journeyman:

  • Assist the University by maximizing the collection of recyclables in all sites

  •  Assist the University by reducing the cost of waste hauling services.

  • Always adhere to workplace health and safety rules and regulations

  • Ability to always be flexible and a team player

  • Problem solving and critical thinking

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

  • The hourly rate range for this position is $ 18.08 – 23.69. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position of General Services Journeyman meets the following preferred qualifications:

  • 1-year experience

All candidates for the position of General Services Journeyman must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Less than high school

  • Combined work experience and education as equivalent.

  • Ability to be flexible and team player

  • Problem-solving and critical thinker

  • Attention to detail and accountability for time keeping

Minimum Education: Less Than High School Combined work experience and education as equivalent Minimum Experience: 0-6 Months Minimum Field of Expertise: Less than one year of experience In moving furniture and general maintenance. Experience driving 1 ½ ton trucks. Demonstrated ability to learn city and state building codes, OSHA rules and regulations, university standards and other requirements for work plece safety.
