MIS Director

The USC Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute and Laboratory of Neuro Imaging (INI, www.ini.usc.edu) are world leaders in the development of advanced computational and scientific approaches for the comprehensive mapping of brain structure and function. LONI’s unique multidisciplinary environment and cutting edge resources allow for integration of clinical, psychological and genotypic information with neuroimaging phenotypes for research questions in neurology, psychiatry and developmental neurobiology.

We are currently seeking a Security/IT Director to join our program. This position is primarily responsible for managing information systems and cyber security for a research organization and works closely with the department administrator and director. This position is also responsible for overseeing technical staff and operations involved in research systems analysis and applications programming, systems programming, technical planning, data administration and security, hardware support, documentation, disaster recovery, client services and training, data center operations, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise and strong leadership. The position has responsibility for staff supervision, budget development and administration, department short and long term planning, system configuration, vendor management, customer service and satisfaction, and quality assurance.

Required Skills:

The ideal candidate will have ALL of the following:

  • strong familiarity with software development lifecycle
  • directly relevant experience administering complex, high performance information systems
  • provide technical direction to systems development and support staff
  • supervisory and budget experience
  • strong project management skills
  • excellent communication skills 

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these additional qualifications are highly preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related is preferred
  • Management experience in a comparably complex configured systems environment
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to communicate business and technical information clearly, persuasively and effectively, both orally and in writing

Preferred Years of Experience: 9 years

The annual base salary range for this position is $151,962.70 - $167,070.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.


Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 5 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly relevant experience administering comparable information systems to be able to provide technical direction to systems development and support staff. Supervisory and budget experience.
