Nurse Practitioner

Urology Los Angeles, California

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. The Department of Urology is looking for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to assist our USC Institute of Urology Health Sciences Campus.  The NP will conduct in-depth interviews with patients and/or family to construct comprehensive medical histories.  The NP performs initial and periodic physical examinations and explores patient’s interpretation of health needs.  Identifies and treats patients’ urological diseases.  The NP is to manage treatment of outpatient Urology patients.  Directly performs or orders appropriate diagnostic studies and interprets finished results.  Develops and implements long and short range treatment plans.  The NP performs urologic outpatient procedures and writes orders to increase, decrease or change medication, subject to checking and counter-signing by physician.  The NP initiates consultations and monitors scheduling of patients for special tests.  Identifies and records pertinent progress of patients, updating and summarizing charts, changing orders when appropriate and notifying the responsible physician.  This position is responsible for instructing and counseling patients and families regarding preventive care, medical problems, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.  This position also attends and participates in patient care meetings, clinic meetings, and other events as required.

Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree

Minimum Experience:
5 years, Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience

Minimum Field of Expertise: Possession of current certificate of completion from a Nurse Practitioner program. Current and valid California State RN and Nurse Practitioner licenses, and Basic Cardiac Life Support certification. Clinical nursing experience.
