Postdoctoral Scholar Research Associate (Fixed Term)

The USC Leonard Davis School has an international reputation as a hub of aging research and with additional strong programs throughout the university leads the way in defining and advancing the field of gerontology.

The laboratory of Proffesor Andrei Irimia (www.andrei-irimia.com) at the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology seeks a postdoctoral research scholar interested in the application of computer-based methods for the automated analysis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) data sets acquired from human volunteers. The postdoctoral scholar will use cutting-edge techniques for neuroimage analysis to advance the state of the art in MRI+CT neuroimage analysis and to quantify brain structure during middle age and late adulthood.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in structural/functional MRI/CT, strong skills in image processing (particularly registration, segmentation, surface modeling, voxel-based morphometry), and experience with neuroimaging analysis (FreeSurfer, AFNI, FSL, SPM or similar). Scientific writing skills are desirable. Programming skills (MATLAB or similar) and working knowledge of Linux would be welcome. The successful applicant will be able to work independently with a small amount of supervision and should demonstrate good interpersonal skills as well as an interest in collaborative research.

A PhD or equivalent doctorate in neuroscience, neurobiology, engineering, biophysics, computer science or applied mathematics is required. Applicants with degrees in related fields will also be considered, and individuals with strong quantitative and computational backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply. A strong interest in building an outstanding publication record is essential.

This is a full-time exempt/salary position who will be expected to work at least 40hrs a week. This position is funded by a research contract/grant and may be funded by a subsequent contract/grant.  Accordingly, your position is contingent upon receipt of the necessary funding from this or any subsequent contract/grant to continue employment.
