Postdoctoral Scholar Research Associate

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles and is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. USC is consistently ranked among the nation’s most prestigious universities, and the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology features one the world’s best degree and research programs in gerontology. The USC Davis School has an international reputation as a hub of aging research and, with additional strong programs throughout the university, leads the way in defining and advancing the field of gerontology.

We seek a highly motivated, intellectually curious, and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Scholar with an interest in the cognitive neuroscience of aging, with a focus on memory and executive function. The successful candidate will have a cognitive psychology or neuroscience (structural or fMRI) background. The position is for a one-year fixed term. The start date of the appointment is flexible, but preferably no later than September 2019. The position may be renewable for a second year, depending on performance and availability of grant funding.

The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will have the opportunity to work with an already existing data set (which includes a large battery of cognitive, neuropsychological and imaging variables collected on younger and older adults) as well as design and conduct new behavioral or imaging experiments. Primary duties include conducting experiments, analyzing data, writing manuscripts, presenting at national and international conferences, and assisting with grant writing. The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will have access to numerous opportunities for professional development, including support for pilot studies and competitive grant applications, workshops on quantitative methods, speaker series, writing and grantsmanship workshops, at USC. This position is intended to help the candidate prepare for and achieve an independent research career. Facility with experiment design and implementation, quantitative data management, analysis, and interpretation, as well as excellent written and verbal communication and time management skills are critical, as is the ability to work both independently and within a team. A Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or a related field is required by the time of appointment.
