Postdoctoral Scholar - Research Associate

Keck School of Medicine Los Angeles, California

The Siemer lab (siemerlab.usc.edu) at USC is looking for a postdoc with a background in NMR spectroscopy and knowledge of protein biochemical techniques. We study intrinsic protein disorder in the context amyloid fibrils using solid-state NMR, EPR, and MD simulations.

Current projects: We work on the fibrils formed by huntingtin and α-synuclein important in neurodegenerative diseases and specific chaperones that interact with these fibrils.

Environment: The Siemer lab is part of the Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute a modern research facility located at the health science campus of USC, close to downtown Los Angeles. USC is a very collaborative environment and we have long running collaborations with labs at USC as well as labs in North America and Europe. 

Requirements: The candidate should have a Ph.D. and a solid understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of NMR spectroscopy. Additional experience in protein production and work with amyloid fibrils is preferred.

The annual base salary range for this position is $70,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.


Serves as a research trainee for the purpose of enhancing and developing research competencies. Participates in planning, designing and conducting highly technical and complex research projects under the direction of a supervisor. May or may not work independently. Analyzes research data and provides interpretations. Contributes to the development of research documentation for publication and/or prepares technical reports, papers and/or records. (Fixed-term; one year and renewable on the recommendation of the faculty mentor and at the discretion of the dean. May be renewed up to a maximum of five years.)
