Project Specialist - Administrative

Preventive Medicine Los Angeles, California

A Project Specialist (Administrative) is needed to assist the Center Director and Principal Investigators in all aspects of the operations for an NIH/FDA-supported Tobacco Center of Regulatory Science (TCORS) at the Department of Preventive Medicine, Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.  This center is one of a network of centers nationwide designed to generate research to inform the regulation of tobacco products to protect public health. This is an opportunity to work with world-class investigators from USC engaged in studies of tobacco and public health.

This is a challenging position, as the TCORS has multiple projects and teams. Beyond general coordination and administrative duties, responsibilities include record keeping and report preparation, including keeping meeting minutes held by the Executive Committee and expenditure records for the individual projects and cores.  In addition, he/she will schedule all meetings and conferences, maintain records of these activities, and handle all correspondence and telephone calls within the Center. Additionally, the position will coordinate pilot project applications and manage a pilot grant program with specific projects supporting the TCORS goals.

Important qualifications include excellent communication and computer skills, organizational and problem-solving abilities, and a demonstrated ability to work independently while working multiple tasks.  A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/education is required and 2-3 years’ experience with administration of government sponsored research projects is preferred.  Applicants with a Master’sdegree in Public Policy or Public Health, a background in the sciences, and with professional experience in a university research environment are encouraged to apply. 

Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education. Minimum Experience: 2 Years Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related project or administrative experience.
