Project Specialist

Keck School of Medicine Los Angeles, California

The Department of Population and Public Health Sciences is currently seeking a Project Specialist. We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented individual to join a research lab at the University of Southern California, where you will work under the guidance of Dr. David Black, tenured faculty in the division of Health Behavior Research. The primary objective of this role is to investigate the impact of feedback devices, such as continuous glucose monitors, on behavior change and to develop intervention content aimed at preventing diabetes and enhancing the health of the Latino population. The applicant will learn about wearable devices, dietary behaviors, AI-based video technologies, and the development of phone-based health interventions.

The Project Specialist's role involves assistant the daily operations crucial to the research study's success. The ideal candidate for this position should have prior experience in research and be adept at documenting and administering study protocols. The applicant is expected to demonstrate a high degree of attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential for excelling in this role, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with participants and team members.

Two-years of research-related experience in an employee role is preferred. Completed graduate degree preferred with emphasis in the health, medicine, or psychology.

Bilingual in English and Spanish is required, as many participants will be Spanish speakers.

Key responsibilities:

1. Manage day-to-day operations of research by organizing reports and communications.

2. Administer study protocols with high fidelity and in accordance with the study manual.

3. Communicate regularly and effectively with PI, Research Coordinators, and other staff.

4. Carefully monitor data capture systems, such as Redcap, to ensure accurate data files.

5. Disseminate information about the project and screen individuals for eligibility.

6. Monitor participant progress and conduct study interviews in English/ Spanish.

7. Conducts quality assurance reviews of research protocols and data files.

8. Operate and maintain sensor equipment and provide training on using equipment.

9. Contribute study updates to weekly study meetings and present data as needed.

10. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested dependent on project needs.

The hourly rate range for this position is $29.40 - $37.88. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
