Research Associate, Senior
Apply Keck School of Medicine Los Angeles, CaliforniaThe USC Roski Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology and USC Ginsburg Institute for Biomedical Therapeutics is seeking a Research Associate, Senior position. The Sr. Research Associate's objectives include conducting stem cell-based experiments and general lab maintenance in vision research. This individual would have specific expertise in cell culture work and analytical techniques for characterization. The individual will be responsible for preparation of buffers, reagents, cell culture media and standardized protocols. In addition to analytical problem solving and decision-making skills, the individual is expected to maintain accurate experimental records. The individual must have excellent facility with computers. The individual must be highly organized, and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The individual must also be willing to acquire new skills and techniques in the field.
Job Summary:
Will conducting basic stem cell-based research experiments towards development of therapeutics for retinal diseases. Will conduct standardized tests and procedures under close supervision.
Job Accountabilities include:
- Prepares experimental materials using laboratory protocols and safety guidelines.
- Conducts research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols
- Collects laboratory measurements and data
- Computes results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques
- Stem cell-based cell culture work
- Stem cell-based characterization
- Preparation of reagents, buffer, and cell culture media
- Collects and sterilizes dishware and glassware for use in laboratory
- Sets up and operates standard laboratory equipment.
- Maintains accurate experimental records of procedures used to conduct experiments.
- Conducts analyses of experiment data
- Performs routine analysis and provides routine interpretations.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, arranges for basic repairs, may alter equipment to meet experiment requirements, makes recommendations for equipment acquisition
- Stocks and maintains laboratory supplies. Monitors inventory levels and orders or secures supplies as needed.
- Maintains laboratory environment in orderly, operable condition.
- Conducts library research to assist in the planning and design of experiements
- Learns basic laboratory safety and, if appropriate, basic radiation or blood borne pathogen safety under the direction of the USC Safety Office and more experienced laboratory staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Education: Undergraduate/Graduate degree in field of biological sciences
Preferred Experience: Prefer familiarity with laboratory procedures and equipment.
Preferred Field of Expertise: Stem Cell Biology

The salary rate range for this position is $72,738.18 - $91,500.
