Research Lab Technician II

Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences Los Angeles, California

The Social Learning & Choice Lab (PI: Dr. Leor Hackel) and Wood Lab (PI: Dr. Wendy Wood) at University of Southern California are seeking a full-time lab manager/research assistant to begin August or September 2021. The Social Learning & Choice lab studies social learning and decision-making using behavioral experiments, neuroimaging, and computational modeling techniques. Dr. Wood’s lab studies habits, social influence, and gender differences in behavior. The lab manager will split their time between the two labs, working closely with Dr. Hackel and Dr. Wood on research projects and gaining experience in all aspects of research. The position is ideal for individuals hoping to gain research experience prior to applying to graduate programs in psychology, neuroscience, and related fields. A two-year commitment is preferred.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include (1) managing day-to-day lab activities (scheduling events, managing finances, training/supervising volunteer research assistants, managing IRB approvals), (2) developing materials and programming behavioral and fMRI experiments, (3) recruiting and testing human subjects, and (4) analysis of behavioral and fMRI data. 

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Research experience in psychology or neuroscience
  • Undergraduate coursework in statistical analysis and experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SPSS, Matlab, Excel)

Particularly strong applicants will have strong organizational skills; experience with one or more programming languages (e.g., Matlab, Python, JavaScript, etc); and the ability to work well with others. Experience with fMRI analysis packages (e.g., SPM, FSL) is helpful but not required.
