Research Lab Technician III of Cancer Center

Cancer Center - Epigenome Los Angeles, California

The USC Molecular Genomics Core is seeking a motivated full-time Research Lab Technician III/Supervisor. The successful candidate will have advance experience in a research laboratory setting with demonstrated knowledge and competency in various key functional areas with an emphasis on genomic technology experimental design and execution. The applicant will primarily be responsible for executing on assays related to General Molecular Services, therefore experience in the area of molecular biology is expected.  The successful applicant must possess and demonstrate a willingness to learn and employ new skill sets that will contribute to the USC Molecular Genomics Core (both technically and intellectually) as he/she will be expected to contribute to the overall success and growth of the laboratory objectives. 

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal communication skill with high emphasis on collaboration, communication, customer service, a meticulous attention to details, competence at working independently, and an ability to easily adapt to a wide scope of assays/projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience working in a molecular and/or genomics laboratory.
  • Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology or related field.
  • Experience with high throughput molecular biology techniques and assays.
  • Proficient in pipetting.
  • Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Working experience in RNA sequencing required.
  • Working knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and protocols.
  • Provides general laboratory assistance to support research activities.
  • Conducts research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols.
  • Performs assignments which are non-routine and vary in complexity with minimal direction.
  • Compiles data and computes results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques.
  • Works closely with and under the leadership of the laboratory manager for laboratory organization.

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work in a team-oriented environment and provide cutting-edge high throughput genomics and molecular services to the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, and its affiliates.


Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Specialized/technical training Minimum Experience: 3 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Fully competent and proficient in the operation of sophisticated scientific equipment and independently able to perform complex procedures and techniques with accuracy Job Description Job Description Plans and conducts research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols. Independently performs non-routine and complex research laboratory procedures and techniques. Selects, modifies or adapts equipment and procedures to specific research needs. Supervises other research laboratory personnel as assigned.
