Senior Audio Supervisor

Trojan Event Services (TES), a unit within USC Student Life, is seeking a full-time Senior Audio Supervisor to lead efforts to support and facilitate events within Trojan Event Service’s performance venues that include Bovard Auditorium, Trojan Grand Ballroom, Tommy’s Place, Traditions, Ronald Tutor Campus Center meeting rooms, and outdoor spaces. Under the supervision of the Senior Technical Supervisor, the Senior Audio Supervisor will lead student staff, manage operations of audio equipment, and provide live audio engineering services. The Senior Audio Supervisor is also responsible for the procurement, inventory, maintenance, configuration and distribution of all audio equipment and related materials.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of live audio systems design, an appreciation of how successful events enhance students’ experience, and the ability to foster strong partnerships within TES and across the university. The Senior Audio Supervisor will serve as the lead audio representative of Trojan Event Services and will work closely with event organizers to facilitate the audio requirements of professional touring groups as well as student organizations and campus departments.

Trojan Event Services produces roughly 2,500 events annually within a diverse array of indoor and outdoor venues. The primary function of Trojan Event Services is to enhance the student experience by facilitating engaging events for student organizations and university departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the operation and maintenance of audio services and equipment within Trojan Event Service’s performance spaces. Responsible for Front of House mixing, , and analysis of venue needs and upgrades.

  • Responsible for asset management including procurement, receipt, inventory, maintenance, delivery, and distribution of all audio equipment and related materials.

  • Manages the advancement of audio requirements for professional touring riders to facilitate Vision & Voices, and other large-scale performance productions.

  • Directly supervise student staff and responsible for hiring, training, skill development, and performance evaluation.

  • Schedules, assigns and prioritizes workloads and sets appropriate deadlines to prudently facilitate Trojan Event Service’s events.

  • Develops Standard Operating Procedures for audio equipment usage and ensures compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.

  • Consults with event organizers to understand needs and expectations, in order to develop audio design plans leading to the highest level of performer satisfaction and audience experience.

  • Troubleshoots and resolves technical issues with audio equipment and performance to facilitate successful events.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of digital mixing consoles, digital audio protocols, and live audio systems design.
  • Experience directly related to the design, installation and maintenance of audio hardware and software.
  • Demonstrable Front-of House and Monitor engineering skills.
  • Auditory ability in analyzing and compensating for sound anomalies within different venues and productions.
  • Understand complex digital and analog audio signal routing and matrixing.
  • Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
  • Specialized/technical training.
  • 3 years of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of applicable experience.
  • Experience working in a university setting.
  • Experience working with a team of student staff.
  • Experience in venue management.
  • Extensive knowledge of Digico mixing consoles, Q-Sys system designs and Shure wireless microphone systems.
  • Experience with digital audio workstations such as Logic Pro X and Pro Tools.

Compensation: The annual base salary range for this position is $88,000 - $92,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
