The USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Southern California (USC Norris) was founded in 1971 and has been continuously funded as an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center since 1973. USC Norris has a rich tradition of collaborative research and serves as a major regional and national resource for cancer research, prevention, treatment and education.
The Biostatistics Core of the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center has an opening for an experienced Staff Biostatistician to support clinical and translational research efforts at the Cancer Center. Under the supervision of a faculty, PhD level Biostatistician, and in collaboration with faculty investigators and USC research staff, the successful candidate will perform statistical analysis and other tasks relevant to a biostatistician’s role in support of qualitative and quantitative scientific research and evaluation projects. The Staff Biostatistician will conceive and perform statistical analyses of data from clinical studies, laboratory experiments and other research projects. (S)he will write reports summarizing the results of these analyses, will write methods sections and portions of results sections for manuscripts and other reports or presentations of research findings, and assume authorship-level responsibility for these components. The Staff Biostatistician will contribute to the development of research proposals, research grants and contracts by writing sections describing statistical methods and the results of statistical analyses for preliminary studies.
The successful candidate will possess an advanced degree in applied statistics or biostatistics with training that includes a solid underpinning in the theoretical basis for statistical methods and experimental design concepts, and will have post-graduate work experience as a statistician in a research environment, with the ability to work semi-independently with junior- and senior-level investigators. A high-level of proficiency with statistical analysis software such as Stata, SAS, and R is required. Candidates with experience in study design, case report form development, monitoring, and analysis of oncology clinical trials, and a good understanding of basic concepts of design of relational databases and ability to utilize SQL-based databases, will be preferred. The successful candidate must have excellent English oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly in writing and in person and to participate productively in interactions with investigators and staff.

Master's degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a closely related field
Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
2-3 years experience as a biostatistician in a medical research environment.
Minimum Field of Expertise:
Biometry, Biostatistics or Statistics
Experience in statistical programming using standard statistical packages such as SAS, R, or STATA.
