Quantum Information Scientist

Information Sciences Institute Marina del Rey, California

Information Sciences Institute (ISI), a unit of USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering, is a world leader in the research and development of advanced information processing, computing, and communications technologies. ISI operates one of the world’s largest academic high-performance computing clusters. ISI has three research campuses:  one in Marina Del Rey, CA; one in Arlington, VA; and one in Waltham, MA.

USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI) is home to the USC Lockheed Martin Quantum Computation Center (QCC). ISI and USC faculty, researchers, and students conduct theoretical and experimental quantum research and have access to world-class facilities that include a D-Wave 2X system and USC’s HPC Center – placing the QCC at the leading edge of revolutionary research.

Information Sciences Institute, part of the Viterbi School of Engineering at USC, seeks a Quantum Information Scientist with expertise in quantum computing theory. Plans, designs and conducts highly technical and complex research projects that require ingenuity and innovation, both independently and in consultation with others. Contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques and standards. Analyzes research data and provides interpretations. Contributes to the development of research documentation for publication and/or prepares technical reports, papers and/or records. Develops solutions to complex research problems. Provides leadership, direction and guidance to staff and/or student workers as needed. Individuals with experience in adiabatic quantum computing are strongly encouraged to apply.


  • Serves as a senior researcher with expertise in quantum computing. Plans, designs and conducts highly technical and complex research projects.
  • Identifies, researches, compiles and evaluates data sources, background information and/or technology related to area of specialization.
  • Analyzes and evaluates research data utilizing computers and provides interpretations requiring significant knowledge of a specialized area of research. Searches literature, utilizing all available resources including electronic, regarding new methodology and designs experiments accordingly.
  • Develops solutions to complex research problems, ensures solutions are consistent with research objectives.
  • Contributes to the development of research documentation for publication and/or prepares technical reports, papers and/or records.


  • Must have a proven track record of research in the field of Quantum Computing.
  • Must have solid programming skills in C++ and Matlab.
  • Must have experience in implementing computational simulations of quantum systems.
  • Must have experience in devising and implementing classical optimization algorithms.
  • Must have experience running code and managing data in large scale-HPC environments.
  • Minimum education - PhD
  • Minimum experience – 5 years
