Programmer Analyst II - Data Infrastructure Developer

Keck School of Medicine San Diego, California

Location:  San Diego, CA

The USC Keck School of Medicine - Alzheimer Therapeutic Research Institute (ATRI), located in San Diego, California is an academic institute committed to advancing the development of new treatments for Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) through the design and conduct of innovative clinical trials.

ATRI is looking to grow its Data Infrastructure team by recruiting a  Programmer Analyst II – Data Infrastructure position. This individual will work in an Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment, and assist, under supervision, with customizing and maintaining a multi-platform system configuration, ensuring efficiency and security. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Follow design specifications to code, test, debug, install, document, and maintain data-intensive software applications.
  • Building and supporting solutions on AWS
  • Supporting the development life cycle of platform architectural design, deployment and debugging
  • Proven ability to be strategic, creative, and interested in leveraging technology to solve business problems
  • Effectively developing and communicating a business/technology approach to solve business needs
  • Responsible for interfacing with the ATRI Biostatistics group to determine software application objectives, scope and requirements.

Required:

  • Experience using Linux
  • Experience using R
  • Familiar developing and troubleshooting R, Python- and Node- based applications
  • Experience using AWS EC2, Lambda, and S3
  • Excels working in small, dynamic and fast-paced teams
  • Passionate about security, performance, reliability and scalability
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience

Preferred:

  • Familiar with container technologies and management platforms (Kubernetes, Docker, Elastic Container Service)
  • Understanding of Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD)
  • Familiar with AWS CloudFormation, Elastic Load Balancer, RDS, SQS and Route 53, KMS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail
  • Familiar with AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) and SAML integrations with Active Directory
  • Understanding of fault models and able to design fault-tolerant distributed systems
  • Ability to use intelligence monitoring, scripting and tools
  • Familiar with scripting languages like R, Python, Bash
  • Familiar with developing on distributed storage systems
  • Familiar with Google Analytics Technologies
  • Familiar with public cloud service providers such as AWS, Google Cloud, VMware vCloud, Microsoft O365, Rackspace, and IBM Cloud
  • Familiar with agile software development process
  • Familiar with source code repositories (SVN, Git)

The hourly rate range for this position is $42.73 - $54.21. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.


Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined work experience and education as equivalent Minimum Experience: 1 year, Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience Minimum Field of Expertise: Sound knowledge of programming and documentation procedures, programming methods, program flow charts and operator instructions. Knowledge of one or more appropriate computer languages.
