The Cancer and Blood Disease Institute (CBDI) at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the Division of Hematology-Oncology within the Department of Pediatrics, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California (USC) are recruiting an internationally recognized leader to serve as Head of the Section of Oncology. This individual will oversee clinical and research activities and program expansion in pediatric oncology. They will be expected to conduct research and further advance a leading research program that integrates laboratory and clinical science to develop and deliver innovative oncologic therapies. The position reports to the CBDI Director/Division Chief. Direct reports are approximately 25 faculty members including medical directors of the following programs: Leukemia-Lymphoma, Neuro-Oncology, Solid Tumor, Neuroblastoma, Survivorship and Supportive Care, and Retinoblastoma. The position includes membership at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and an academic appointment through USC Keck School of Medicine at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, appropriate to training and experience.
The CBDI is the largest and top-ranked pediatric hematology-oncology program in the western U.S. The U.S. News & World Report ranked the CBDI #3 and CHLA #7 in the nation in 2023-24. The CBDI’s Oncology Section saw approximately 900 new oncology patients in 2022. Specialty oncology services include the Leukemia and Lymphoma Program, Neuro-Oncology Program, Solid Tumor Program, Neuroblastoma Program, Retinoblastoma Program, Survivorship and Supportive Care Program, Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Service, and Radiation Oncology Program. The Section is dedicated to providing the best possible multidisciplinary, individualized care for children with cancer. Section faculty conduct leading-edge research to discover, develop and deliver therapies designed to improve outcomes. The CBDI has a large clinical trials operation that supports programs in hematology, oncology, and transplantation/cellular therapy. Two leading, international pediatric oncology clinical trials consortia are headquartered within the CBDI: Therapeutic Advances in Childhood Leukemia/Lymphoma (TACL) and New Approaches to Neuroblastoma Therapy (NANT). The CBDI is also an active member of 20 leading international consortia. CBDI investigators conduct extensive bench-to-bedside research. Research funding in FY23 totaled $52.5 million with $8.3 million in new awards. The CBDI hosts an ACGME-accredited pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship training program and 1-year advanced subspecialty fellowships in AYA Oncology, Neuro-Oncology, Transplantation/Cellular Therapy and Coagulation.

The annual base salary range for this position is $116,505.-$517,500.
