The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC) and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics, are actively recruiting a physician at the faculty rank of Assistant or Associate Professor on the Clinician Educator track who is BE/BC in child abuse pediatrics (or is a pediatrician with significant experience/expertise in child abuse pediatrics and the care of children in foster care) to join the well-established Audrey Hepburn CARES Center at CHLA in Los Angeles, California.
The CARES Center is a multifaceted multidisciplinary child protection center involving evaluation, treatment, medical follow-up, prevention, advocacy, education and research in the fields of child maltreatment and foster care. The Center is housed within the main campus of CHLA, one of the nation’s best academic medical centers, an international leader, and the only free-standing accredited Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in Los Angeles County, which leads to a high volume of critical and often complex patients requiring the CARES Team’s services.
Responsibilities
The Child Abuse Pediatrician’s responsibilities will include: Providing in-depth evaluations and follow-up assessments in the inpatient and outpatient settings on cases suspicious for child maltreatment; working in a multidisciplinary setting and with various subspecialty services to coordinate patients’ medical care and work-up while adhering to specific guidelines; providing evaluation and medical care for children and youth in foster care; participating in the training of physicians, hospital staff and/or other community professionals on topics including identification, reporting, treatment, and/or prevention of child maltreatment; and coordinating with members of Child Protective Services, law enforcement, and the judicial system. Strong clinical skills are expected as well as the ability to demonstrate leadership in meeting the needs of children and families, both within the hospital and the community, who are affected by child maltreatment.
Academic responsibilities may include training medical students, residents, and fellows in research pertaining to child maltreatment and/or foster care. Activities involving quality improvement, peer review and/or the development or enhancement of protocols to improve efficiencies and quality of patient care and safety may also be pursued.
Qualifications
· Candidates must be an MD, DO or equivalent.
· Completion of an accredited pediatric residency program and fellowship training in child abuse with Board Certification or Board Eligible designation is preferred.However, a pediatrician with significant experience/expertise in child abuse pediatrics and the care of children in foster care will also be considered.
· Eligible to obtain licensure in the State of California.
· Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges.
· Experience working in an academic medical center and a desire to incorporate clinical practice into teaching to a variety of learners is preferred.
· Outstanding communication skills, the ability to effectively lead a team, and experience building collaborative partnerships are essential.

The annual base salary range for this position is $95,904 -$417,709.
