Contracts and Grants Coordinator/Fiscal Officer
Position Title: Fiscal Officer/Department of Contracts and Grants Coordinator for USC Sea Grant

The USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is seeking a Contracts and Grants Coordinator/Fiscal Officer in the Sea Grant Program. The Fiscal Officer works collaboratively with the SG Director, Executive Director, and program staff to manage the approximately $2 million annual budget comprising federal, state and private-sector funding. The individual oversees all aspects of SG’s fiscal operations, supports proposal preparation and budget development, and is responsible for subaward coordination and post-award management, fiscal reporting, forecasting, and staff level-of-effort analysis.
The USC Sea Grant Program at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles is part of the national network of 34 programs in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Sea Grant Program. Our program is a federal-state-university partnership that integrates research, education, and outreach with a specific focus on the ‘Urban Ocean’ and solving issues arising out of managing people and natural coastal resources in an intensely urban and developed region.
Sea Grant Fiscal Officer will be a member of the USC Wrigley Institute for Environment and Sustainability (WISE) Institute and a member of the USC Sea Grant (SG) leadership team. They will manage all SG financial functions including accounting, billing, reconciling, budget development and tracking, financial operations, for federal, state and locally funded projects. They will also maintain a database and grants management system for use by the Director and other leadership in monitoring project expenditures and cost-sharing commitments for all awards. They will ensure compliance with financial regulations, manage grants and contracts, and provide financial guidance to program staff. Duties also include closely interacting with the University’s Department of Contracts and Grants, other university offices and faculty to facilitate the exchange of information and provide services associated with pre- and post-award administration of contracts and grants for a school or unit.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Master's degree
Experience: 3 or more years of experience in contracts and grants administration, grant writing, or a related field is generally required. Knowledge of university, local, federal, and/or non-federal rules and regulations is preferred.
Skills: Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with exemplary attention to detail. Experience in higher education and/or customer service. Proven ability to manage financial operational details. Proven project management and problem solving skills, able to handle multiple timelines, changing priorities, fluctuating workloads and confidential information. Knowledge of WorkDay, Concur SAP and eRA Commons preferred.
The annual base salary range for this position is $72,000 – $90,507.26. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer alignment, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
This is a grant-funded position.
Work Arrangement: The position is hybrid requiring at least 3 days a week in the office.
