This position is a unique opportunity to work in the academic setting with an experienced and motivated team to address disparities in genetics. The patient population at LAC+USC reflects the diversity of Los Angeles County, and this genetic counselor will strive to provide compassionate and culturally informed genetic counseling to a majority non-English, primarily Spanish-speaking patient population. The genetic counseling position is comprised of both research and clinical roles.
As an integral part of the research team, the genetic counselor will participate in a newly funded Cancer Moonshot project “Optimizing Engagement of Hispanic Colorectal Cancer Patients in Cancer Genomic Characterization Studies.” The genetic counselor will (1) counsel Hispanic/Latino research participants with colorectal cancer regarding their genomic findings and work to integrate these results into their medical care and (2) join efforts of the research team to improve participant engagement in this unique population. As an integral part of the team, the genetic counselor will formulate and support research activities related to the fields of genetic counseling, cancer genetics and genomics, and precision oncology.
The clinical role of this position at LAC+USC Medical Center will consist of cancer genetic counseling services in a busy academic clinical medical oncology setting. The genetic counselor will be responsible for overseeing patient care, providing genetic counseling, coordinating follow-up visits and cascade genetic testing, providing tests results to patients, obtaining/reviewing medical records, and conducting outreach to patients, families, the medical community, and stakeholders.

Minimum Education: M.S. Genetic Counseling, Board eligible or Board certified.
Minimum Experience/Knowledge: One-year experience in genetic counseling preferred. Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
