Learning and Development Coordinator - Standardized Patient Program
Apply Keck School of Medicine Los Angeles, CaliforniaDevelop education programs for standardized patients (SPs) in the Department of Medical Education at the Keck School of Medicine to include recruiting, training, assigning work, and performing quality assessment of the SPs.
Duties include:
- Recruit and interview standardized patients for purposes of assessment and training/teaching.
- Supervise the training of all standardized patients in all aspects of case portrayal, checklist item recognition, physical exam procedures and exam operations for all teaching associate performances. Coordinate and conduct training of standardized patients for low and high stakes student exams. Orient standardized patients on policies and procedures of the program.
- Participate in the design of cases to be used in teaching settings with standardized patients and other simulations.
- Assist in all administrative aspects of the CSEEC.
- Develop and implement the standardized patient program and methods for assessment of standardized patients. Provide on-going feedback to SPs and remediates SP performance. Collect and analyse data for annual SP evaluations under the guidance of the Center leadership.
- Conduct SP orientations.
- Assist faculty with case and script development. Prepare and update materials for each standardized patient encounter, such as assignments, scenarios, checklist, handouts, evaluations, schedules and room assignments.
- Maintain database of cases, materials and assessment tools.
- Work closely with the Learning and Assessment Center Director, staff, SPs, students and faculty to plan and implement educational programs that use SPs in the Center, and to ensure that the SP Program meets the needs of all concerned.
- Advise course and program directors of concerns and or important issues facing the SP Program, to include recommending solutions and policies to improve the operations of CSEEC, and intervening to maintain the integrity of the program, when necessary.
- Attend and participate in appropriate organizational workshops to keep current on educational theory and practice in the use of simulation and standardized patients in medical education.
- Maintain effective communication with staff, faculty, and students associated with SP Program activities.
The annual base salary range for this position is $71,669.48 - $80,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
