The Division of Cinema and Media Studies at the School of Cinematic Arts of the University of Southern California invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, teaching faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. (At USC such positions are designated “RTPC” for Research, Teaching, Professional, and Clinical.)
The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for Introduction to Cinema—taught in three large lectures a year of approximately 300 students each—as well as courses in their specialty. We are looking for applicants who will work with us to imagine the introductory course in ways that will bring it up to date while still maintaining its institutional position as a broadly popular undergraduate course across the university and the gateway to the School of Cinematic Arts. A significant aspect of the position involves the training of a large number of graduate students as teaching assistants who lead discussion sections.
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. at the time of appointment and should demonstrate excellence in teaching and course design. The teaching load is 3/3 with service.
Interested candidates should provide a cover letter of no more than two pages that discusses teaching philosophy, style and effectiveness; a curriculum vita including names and contact details for three references; two syllabuses, one from a comparable introduction class; and a teaching dossier of less than 10 pages that offers evidence of teaching success, particularly in high enrollment courses.
Minimum Education: Ph.D.
Minimum Experience: One year of teaching experience or its equivalent, to demonstrate teaching excellence.
Preferred Education: Ph.D in film & media studies and related fields.
Preferred Experience: Five years of teaching experience or its equivalent, to demonstrate teaching excellence.
The core salary range for this position is as followed:
Assistant Professor: $83,000 - $88,000
Associate Professor: $88,000 - $100,000
This is a 9-month full-time, non-tenure track position.
When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
