Student Programs Advisor III

Keck School of Medicine Los Angeles, California

Keck Academic and Career Advising is a comprehensive four-year program designed, in conjunction with the AAMC’s Careers in Medicine program, to provide the resources necessary for students to understand themselves and their career goals, explore the wide variety of career options in medicine, choose a specialty, and successfully apply for residency and participate in the Match. The career advising program is housed in the office of Student Affairs under the leadership of the Assistant Dean for Career Advising. The department is currently hiring for the Director of Academic and Career Advising to oversee day to day operations of the career advising program including specialty exploration and the residency application process. Responsibilities include:

  • Manage advising staff in performance of duties.
  • Develop and oversee year IV scheduling process using information from students regarding specialty selection.Meet with students about schedules, specialty selection, personal statements and academic interests including dual degrees or research.
  • Oversee activities to support the residency application process including the interview workshop, personal statement workshop, mock interviews, and MSPE preparation.
  • Prepare and distribute reports on students’ residency application status, including number of programs applied to and interviews scheduled to departmental advisor and Deans.
  • Coordinate career advising programming, including introduction to careers in medicine information and specialty exploration workshops.
  • Serve as the unit’s liaison with the departmental faculty advisors.Coordinate assignments of third-year students to departmental faculty advisors.
  • Oversee preparation of the Medical Student Performance Evaluations. Supervise advisor(s) in MSPE edits, edit MSPEs, and upload into ERAS.
  • Work with Registrar to develop policies and procedures related to fourth-year selective/elective scheduling.
  • Manage career advising systems and database.
  • Attend professional development conferences and workshops.

The annual base salary range for this position is $71,280.71-$85,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
