Student Services Advisor I

Leonard Davis School of Gerontology Los Angeles, California

The USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology is seeking a Student Services Advisor with strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills to join its team! The Student Services Advisor counsels and /or provides undergraduate and/or graduate students with a range of services covering admissions, financial aid, academic counseling, and advisement. This position reports to our Student Services Advisor III and will be part of the Student Services Department for the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology.

This role requires full-time on-campus work and some traveling around on and off campus for event purposes (i.e., picking up supplies, dropping off paperwork, etc.). A valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities:

• Counsels or advises prospective students and families on admissions, financial aid, housing, and academic requirements

•Counsels undergraduate and/or graduate students with records and registration, placement and career services, and student programs.

•Provides initial evaluation of admissions and financial aid applications, and identifies and recommends scholarship recipients based on eligibility requirements.

• Provides academic counseling for undergraduate and/or graduate students.

• Provides career information and limited placement services for students and alumni.

• Maintains academic unit student records and coordinates registration activities, grading, degree progress, enrollment and degree verification, and transcripts.

• Plans and coordinates student events including commencement, orientation receptions, and award ceremonies.

• Provides administrative support to faculty and academic committees.

• May supervise student workers

• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

• Tracks student progress in programs Counsels undergraduate and/or graduate students with records and registration, placement and career services, and student programs.

• Notifies students of upcoming deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in student services counseling, and academic advisement.

• Experience in working with Ph.D. students and programs is a plus.

• Must have a strong understanding of relevant university policy, including national standards and practices in relevant areas.

• Demonstrated experience with problem identification and conflict resolution.

• Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

• Proficient in Salesforce

• Strong written and communication skills.

• Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, students, staff, and faculty.

• Demonstrated strong personal mastery, including ethics, and interpersonal skills, and engaged in continuous learning.

• Ability to manage multiple projects, adjust to changing priorities and perform well under pressure.

• Demonstrated organizational skills, extreme attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

The hourly rate range for this position is $28.43 - $36.45. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
