Student Services Advisor II

The Division of Cinema & Media Studies (CAMS) within the USC School of Cinematic Arts is seeking applicants for a Student Services Advisor II. The Cinema & Media Studies and the School of Cinematic Arts have consistently been ranked among the best film and media programs in the country, and Cinema & Media Studies is one of the core divisions of the school with a large undergraduate and graduate population. Faculty in the division and alumni are recognized as leaders in their respective areas of study, and the Division has many notable alumni.

Qualifications

The ideal applicant for the position would have demonstrated skills and interest in graduate student advisement and program management. A background in film and media studies is preferred but not necessary.

Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities for the position include providing extensive advising and program support for a busy academic division with BA, MA, and PhD students. The position is responsible for advisement, maintenance of student records, data collection and reports, and management of day-to-day activities within the division, including teaching and course assistant supervision, student advising, scholarship coordination, and troubleshooting. The support functions include but are not limited to:

· Providing advisement for all graduate students (MA and PhD) in Cinema & Media Studies throughout the course of their time in the program.

·  Organizing and overseeing the admissions process for the MA and PhD programs.

·  Managing the teaching assistants, course assistants, and readers including training, appointment contracts, and overseeing onboarding.

·  Maintaining academic and student records, compiling statistical data, and preparing reports.

·  Advising prospective students on admissions, financial aid, and academic requirements.

· Working with faculty advisors in the division dealing with undergraduate and graduate matters.

·  Serving as liaison to relevant campus offices (e.g. degree progress, the graduate school, graduate admission, and registration) to assure timely completion of student degrees and provide relevant reports and petitions.

·  Assisting in the planning of undergraduate students services and representing the division to school-wide student services.

·  Assisting in ceremonies and events for the division, including graduation.

·  Assisting in the general administration of the Cinema & Media Studies Division as well as Community Impact Council Initiatives.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Successful candidates will have strong communication and organizational skills, administrative and event planning experience, as well as a genuine interest in working with students, staff and faculty involved in media studies and practice. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, as well as flexibility in the face of changing priorities and fluctuating workloads is critical.

Minimum Education: Master's degree

Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education


Minimum Experience: 3 years


Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related experience in student services and programming with ability to lead.

Preferred Education:

Doctorate
Master's degree  

Preferred Experience: 3-5 years

Preferred Field of Expertise: Administrative experience in a university environment and knowledge of university policies and procedures

The hourly rate range for this position is $34.35 - $39.03. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
